Stone Lagoon Cabin-Gaze at Wild Elk, Hike to Beach, close to Redwood Park

2 Bedroom(s) | 1 Bathroom(s) | Sleeps 4

Sleeps 4
2 Bedrooms

The Redwood National Park is so close! And the beautiful lagoons & beaches are just across the road - a short bike ride, or longer hike. The wild elk all around are so majestic... So, come to the Stone Lagoon Cabin where you can gaze at wild elk (sometimes they are right on the property), sit by the creek, walk or ride bikes to Stone Lagoon, and explore the redwoods (close to Redwood National Park) and beaches that surround you! 1 night stays allowed for same night bookings, if the cabin is available. This cabin has 2 bedrooms, one of which is adjoining the living room and you put up a privacy screen to separate it from living room, living room, dining area, and full kitchen.

A 2nd cabin is also available to rent that is about 1/4 mile down the road. It is called Peaceful Creekside Cabin for 2 on our website and can be helpful as an additional rental if your need to sleep more than 4. Please note that the only heat source in the cabin is wood heat. A wood stove in the living room and another in the formal bedroom will keep you plenty warm! This is a beautiful logger cabin (you can see the small holes in the floor from the tree climber spikes) and is very private and definitely off the beaten path. You are surrounded by nature and can take a nice 1.5 mile walk to the beach and lagoons, walking by herds of wild elk and beautiful horses. Horseback riding is offered about a half mile from the cabin - what a great family adventure! We do have exterior security cameras in place due to the remoteness of the cabin.

Watch the Stone Lagoon Cabin on YouTube

The hiking all around you is truly world class - whether through the Redwoods National Park, along the beaches of the lagoons, the trail from Dry Lagoon to Stone Lagoon along the beaches then through the woods (about 5 miles round trip), Lady Bird Johnson Grove, Tall Trees, and much more. You can do some of these walks by just walking out your door and not getting into your car - especially the Dry Lagoon to Stone Lagoon one.

And for the water lovers, what a paradise! The lagoons offer great fishing, kayaking (can rent kayaks at Big Lagoon through Kayak Zaks during busier times), canoeing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, Surf fishing, boating and sailing. Some really enjoy putting in a kayak or canoe at Stone Lagoon and paddling across to the campsite, then hiking to the beach from there.

Fun annual events held locally include the Orick Rodeo which takes place in the summer, as well as the Yurok Tribe's Sumeg Village Day, a celebration of the local Native American culture held at nearby Patrick's Point State Park.

The adventures are endless from this wonderful cabin, starting with looking at your window and seeing the wildlife...

Charming, Inviting and Absolutely Perfect

Review by Staci A.
Our trip to N California from Iowa was enhanced greatly by this wonderful cabin. The pictures on the listing are good, but the place in person is so much better! We loved the seclusion, the wood burning stoves and our neighborhood Elk we named Eddie :) We spent our days checking out all the Parks and enjoying the Redwoods, and coming home to this cabin was so relaxing. Everything was as expected and then some.

A Real Cabin

Review by RHEA C.
We had a great time at the Stone Lagoon Cabin. It was perfect for us. Down a private lane off the main highway and deep in the woods. We were minutes from the Redwoods Forests and down the lane from Dry Lagoon. The elk sometimes hang out right in the lawn! The owners have done a great job making it very miner's cabin with rough cut woods and corrugated tin, but at the same time comfy with deep couches, good beds, and, my favorite, the bent-wood rocker. During our week stay, we found everything we needed right there.

Manager Response:
The Stone Lagoon Cabin is one of a kind in our area. The owners take good care of their home and the details, to make it as cozy as can be, for those who are interested in a home of this style. The elk is a bonus that some get to experience, and I am glad you had the opportunity to share the property with them. Thank you for choosing this home and for making us a part of your memories. I hope you will be able to visit us again for future stays.

Amazing place!!

This place is so unique I would recommend it to everyone! It’s 1 mile off the 101 but you feel like you’re deep in the hills. We woke up to elk in the yard both days. The inside of the cabin is so unique it’s difficult to describe, everywhere you look is something different. We would highly recommend it 4 or less people. Just watch out for poison ivy.

This cabin is very special and I am so pleased you took notice to all the details the owners have made. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us and letting us be part of your memories. We hope we will have the opportunity to host you again in the future.

Easy to reach, private cabin in the woods!

Isolated, but with all the amenities... Full kitchen, WiFi, sat TV and two wood stoves for heat. Creek running by 15 feet from bedroom makes this an idyllic escape location. Easy access to all the park locations... Also, Orick general store is 10 minutes away for groceries.

We had a wonderful stay at the Stone Lagoon rental. The wood burning stoves are plenty warm and toasty, even throughout rainy days and nights. The solitude can’t be beat if that’s what you are looking for in a vacation, however there was enough adventures yo be had close by! Highly recommend :)

Awesome Cabin near Redwoods

Review by Robin R.
The Stone Lagoon Cabin north of Trinidad fit all our needs and expectations. It felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, but we were actually just a half mile off 101. Easy access to all the state and national parks. The cabin had wonderful views from all the picture windows. The main bedroom was a great size and the bed extremely comfortable. We loved all the decorating touches except for the kit fox. It was kind of creepy. LOL The cabin was spacious and yet very cozy. The kitchen was small but very functional. We played horse shoes by the creek one night and my husband grilled every night except one. My husband said this was the best place we had ever rented on our vacations!!

Peaceful cozy getaway in the Redwood Forest.

Review by Sietske W.
We loved our stay at this cabin in the woods next to the Redwood Forest. This was a luxury cabin equipped with everything you need and then some and the decor was apropos to the area, giving it a great authentic feel. The hosts were wonderful, welcoming and attentive yet very respectful of privacy. Our only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to visit the redwood forest and have a peaceful getaway.

Beautiful Cabin in the Redwoods

Review by Toby M.
Stone Lagoon cabin awed us from the moment we walked in. The cabin feel is homey, and the decorations are unique. There is one full bathroom that is off the kitchen, a master bedroom on the far end of the cabin, and a full or queen bed (don't quite remember) in the living room. For 4 people, this is perfect. The bathroom is clean and rustic, and the shower has the distinction of having two shower heads on opposite ends of the tub which i have never seen before, but I turned them both on and can now die happy. There are a few steps from the master bedroom to the living room, and from the living room to the kitchen, so be careful wandering around in the dark. The kitchen is a bit tight, with a moveable chopping block obscuring the path to the stove a bit, but it wasn't a problem. You shouldn't have too many cooks in that part of the house anyway. We made use of the two-burner grill just outside the front door, but unfortunately never capitalized on the picnic area 30 yards from the house. Next time. We hiked the James Irvine trail to fern canyon, the redwood creek trail and nearby Lady Bird Johnson grove, and the coastal trail, all trailheads of which were within a 15 minute drive. The cabin is also very close to the Humboldt Lagoons State park, and a paved road leads to a beautiful beach. Thank you for the great vacation!

Cabin in the woods - pure solitude!!

Review by
This was the last stay of our 14 day adventure in CA and we loved the quiet peacefulness of the cabin - more than enough specs for the two of us and could easily have accommodated 4 adults!! Fully equipped and ready for your relaxing comfort - fireplace in the bedroom was a special treat since the nights were cool. The elk were in full force our second day - there were 4 our feeding in the field by the Adirondack chairs!! Thank you for a great stay!!

Stone Lagoon Cabin was a wonderful place to call home for a few days of our stay on the California coast. The cabin itself was warm and inviting, exactly as pictured. It was in a great location for everything we wanted to do, whether it was hiking in Redwood National Park or checking out the local beaches. Very private and quiet, and so fun to see the elk grazing just outside our windows one evening. We hated to pack up and leave. Would highly recommend!!

To be honest I was a little reticent about booking Stone Lagoon, what with the tin walls, but I am so glad I did. It is marvellous, the location the decor, just everything was perfect. Being in the woods, it is nice and quiet and we relaxed from the moment we arrived. It was good to know we needed to buy supplies before arriving, there’s a Safeway in McKinsleyville. We happened to meet Jill when we arrived who is lovely. If you’re heading up to this area, I would absolutely recommend you stay here.

We rented the Stone Lagoon Cabin for HSU graduation weekend. The cabin is small and cozy but is also off the beaten track off a dirt road. The cabin is a unique mish mash of rooms and floors and design but the setting is spectacular with beautiful nature views from every window.

Manager Response:
The Stone Lagoon Cabin is one our unique rental homes, in one of the most beautiful natural environments. While the cabin layout is different for some, the home is quite cozy and definitely gives you the feel of being miles away from a busy life. Thank you for choosing this home while here for HSU graduation weekend. We hope you will have the opportunity to visit us again.

A delightful house in the woods. It’s close to the Redwoods and great hikes, easy to difficult. Literally a stone’s throw to the ocean as well. We are already planning a return trip.

Manager Response:
I love this location! The Stone Lagoon Cabin is in the ideal place to visit our beautiful north coast. Close to the Redwoods, close to the ocean, just off highway 101 for easy access in either direction. If you are planning a return trip, may I recommend fall, as the weather will be a little warner, less wind and rain, generally, than the months you were here, and so you can see our area in a different season. Thank you for your stay and we look forward to having you back again.

Stone Lagoon Cabin was an amazing place to stay!

Review by
The cabin was very clean, comfortable and cozy. We loved the "rusticness" of it and the great use of space. The kitchen had everything & more that we needed, the towels were plentiful and the decor was very tasteful. We loved how remote and quiet it was, but it was very close to all that we wanted to do in the Redwood Parks. We saw lots of Elk and some other wildlife too.

The cabin was just what I was hoping it would be. There is a creek in front of and behind the cabin. Looking out the bedroom window there's a huge rock covered with ferns. With the sounds of whistling birds and babbling of the creek you feel like you're on a deserted island. You're close to the ocean, redwoods, and Roosevelt Elk. We had a fantastic time!!!!

Perfect location in the woods

Review by Kelly A.
This cabin has by far been my favorite vacation rental we have stayed at. The location is amazing. Very private with wonderful views of the woods. The windows in the master bedroom are amazing. My husband and I love to camp, and this cabin had all the best part of camping: great views, privacy, a feeling of being connected to the outdoors, but with such comfortable amenities. And while private, all local activities are so close and accessible. We really regret that we did not stay longer.

Hike to the tall trees in the redwood national park. Stroll along a lonely beach enjoying the sunsets, the crashing surf. Stare with amazement at a huge Roosevelt Elk and his 10 point antler. Retire to your cozy and secluded cabin. Dine on Dungeness crab and local oysters. Throw another log onto the stove. We spent new year's eve here, Dec 31, 2016, and extended our stay to 7 days.

The cabin offers a very warm, cozy place to escape the world and experience nature but with all the comforts of a home. The cabin's decor is very charming and unique and nothing is missing: the kitchen is very well equipped, the shower is hot and the bed comfy. While tucked away in the wood, the cabin is within short distance of the national park, the lagoons and beaches as well as a 20min drive to Trinidad and Arcata. Loved staying there, wished I didn't have to leave.

Wonderful cabin in the woods

Review by
This is an amazingly beautiful place. It is built into the bottom of a canyon with a large fern covered rock outside the bedroom window. There is a hidden trail that leads up into the canyon that makes for a nice morning walk. Wild blackberry bushes are everywhere. Most days we saw elk, either on the property or on the road out to the highway. The cabin is rustic, but very comfortable and very nicely done. This was a five star experience.

Exploring Redwood National Park

Review by
We loved the "off the beaten path" location of Stone Lagoon Cabin. We did not know what to expect and our visit exceeded expectations! The broken washing machine and empty gas grill were a disappointment. Otherwise all else was top notch. The bedroom felt like sleeping in a tree house; it was extra cool!

Manager Response:
Really glad you enjoyed your stay with us and apologize for the inconvenience of those 2 items - but glad we were able to get the BBQ gas replacement right away! Yes, it is really off the main path but still close to the beauty of the Redwood National Park, beaches & lagoons. Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals hopes to have you back again soon to here or any of our other 100+ homes in the area.

Fantastic and Peaceful Get-Away

Review by
We loved everything about the cabin. Very comfortable, nicely decorated, with an eclectic collection of items. Cozy. Extremely quiet and secluded, yet near the beach and redwoods. Enjoyed morning and evening visits from a couple of male elks. One day the internet was out - but that was ok. Just unplug and enjoy being in the quiet country.
5 out of 5 stars
Manager Response:
Thanks for loving everything this cabin has to offer! And thanks for understanding that this is rural, we try hard to stay connected but at time things go out. Unplug here and observe the sunlight through the trees, elk in the meadows, and agates on the beaches. It's all right out the front door!

Fantastic Cabin for a home base

Review by Robert M.
We all were in awe when we walked into this cabin for the first time. Our two boys were so happy and excited. I was extremely excited that I found this cabin. It was very cozy and well laid out (although the light switch placements are very odd). The beds are very comfortable. The inside and outside of the property are very nice. We had a bull elk come and visit within an hour of us arriving at the property (on our first night). This cabin is in a perfect location for going on day trips to the Stone Lagoon, Fern Canyon, Trinidad beaches and so much more. This cabin played a huge part in one of the best family vacations that we have had.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time at the Stone Lagoon Cabin. I am always in awe of those big elk. I never tire of them; such amazing animals. Thank you for booking with Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals and we hope you will visit us again soon.

Quiet cabin with bull elk in front yard

Review by Doug K.
We really enjoyed our stay here on our honeymoon. It rained a bit so we spent a bit of time inside. The last 2 mornings there was a large bull elk in the yard. The bathtub has 2 shower heads, that was nice. The drive off the main Rd is pretty rough, but I guess that's part of the experience. We would stay here again.

Perfect Getaway

Review by Jeff K.
The pictures don't do it justice. This is the perfect romantic getaway spot. The place screams rustic cabin in the woods with the perfect stylistic appointments, but no comfort of the modern world is spared. We had an incredible stay and will be back.

Went with another couple and this cabin was amazing, we were high fiving each other as soon as we stepped in. Close to plenty of redwood hiking trails (several good ones within 30 minutes) & if drive from the cabin to the highway take a right you'll see a sign for Elk Crossing in a few minutes - go there. We saw about 50 Elk. First day you come I recommend coming in daylight b/c it is secluded as advertised. BOOK THIS PLACE! :)

Stone Lagoon Cabin

Review by
This cabin was exactly what we were looking for, and then some. The little extras provided by the property managers were a wonderful touch. Rustic and authentic, yet all amenities a person needed for comfort. Viewing the elk each morning and evening was a treat, and we were so close to both the coast and the forest - couldn't have been more perfect! Drove the Davison Road to walk the Gold Bluffs Beach and then hiked Fern Canyon. Lady Bird Johnson Trail was a great, easy hike, too. Patrick's Point is a must. We picked up groceries in Eureka and enjoyed relaxing evenings sitting at the creek outside the cabin. We hope to return soon, and we rarely go back to a place twice.

Stone Lagoon is one of those dreamy places that one never forgets!!! It's remote location makes for a lovely viewing of so much northern california's exquisite wildlife. Being so close to wonderful beaches and the redwoods is another benefit of staying at the comfortable cabin in the woods. Please do visit us again!

Review by Michelle H.
My husband and I loved everything about the cabin, the region, accessibility to the parks, kayaking, highway, everything. It is easy to get to local small towns, outdoor adventure, restaurants, and more. The cabin itself is so home-like, welcoming, and charming. A large male elk woke us up one morning right outside the back door. The elk herds frequently passed through the property; so peaceful. We will definitely be back.

Best Vacation Rental in the Pacific Northwest

Review by Kimberly E.
My husband and I had an absolutely amazing time and experience at this cabin. We stay at multiple vacation rental homes each year, and both of us agreed that this was one of our favorites. The location, cabin, and scenery exceeded our expectations; and we had several close-up encounters with the local elk herd. The hosts were very friendly and helpful and definitely thought of special touches to make you feel welcome at completely relaxed at their cabin. We will absolutely come back in the future and would recommend this cabin to anyone who loves nature, peace and quiet, wildlife, and escaping from the modern world.

Perfect Cabin

Review by
We loved this cabin for so many reasons. The location is great, it is not far from Trinidad (cute town with great places to eat) and the Redwoods National Park (Recommend Damnation Trail). This was our first vacation to California and it is always a little scary to make reservations online without knowing the area. This place was just icing on this awesome California trip cake. We saw elk right outside our cabin around 6 am and little fat quail running around. I felt like we plopped into a little red riding hood tale...we loved it!

The cabin is just secluded enough, but you're still close to everything!! It was the perfect size for the 4 of us, cozy with all the amenities, including a washer & dryer, great after a hike in the rain. Beds amazingly comfortable, kitchen just big enough! Saw elk herds in Prarie Creek redwoods SP, hiked the boy scout trail in Jedediah Smith park and, the star attraction, the Tall Trees trail in Redwood National Park. Already planning our return trip!

Let me get to the punch line; it's got a great beat and you can dance to it, I give it a 9.9!This was one of those places where the pictures definitely don't do it justice. We loved it just looking at the pictures and made our decision. We knew immediately upon arrival that we had not made a good decision, but rather a FANTASTIC one! Excellent location. Walk over in the morning and stand IN the creek and drink your coffee. Speak to the elk on your walk back to the cabin. No really, they're quite friendly. Through another log on the fire to burn off the morning chill. Throw on your hiking boots and Tilley and hit the trails. We will most definitely be returning for a longer stay, on a regular basis. The cabin is clearly very well cared for. The owners have made it welcoming and comfortable and have a really nice touch that allows you to feel like you're safe and sound there. Loved it.Thank you by the way for sharing your space. And we really mean that.

Hidden Gem

Review by
This is truly a hidden gem. My husband and I along with another couple wanted to getaway to the redwoods/coast for a long weekend. I found this listing on Redwood Coast vacation rentals and decided to book it. Upon arriving at the cabin, we were more than happy with the location and eclectic design of the cabin. The photos do no justice. We saw plenty of Elk on two different occasions and the horses were beautiful and friendly. The cabin is removed from the Hwy or neighbors so it is absolutely silent. Such a beautiful property surrounded by lush greenery and trees. The cabin itself was so interesting...great art and decor. And a short (and gorgeous) drive to Lady Bird Johnson Grove where we hiked then went to Trinity for some yummy seafood. I would go back to this cabin again and again...absolutely love it!

Wow, we loved, loved Stone Lagoon cabin!Something for everyone in our family. Kids had t.v. plus internet access (parents couldn't have cared less, we were there for the natural beauty) 8 year old loved catching slugs and frogs in the little stream. We loved the comfy bed in the living room, funny but nice bathtub, quirky but nicely made details of cabin, little gas grill, nice little kitchen and the quiet. Only possible suggestion would be offering an alternative to the silk sheets on the king size bed. Be sure to check out the Stone lagoon beach right across the road. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Amazing get away cabin

Review by
This cabin is AMAZING if you are looking to get away from it all. The cabin itself was very clean and full of character. The owner did a great job of renovating and decorating this cabin. We spent a lot of time just looking around at the details of the construction and the décor. There are large windows in every room so no matter where you are you can look out at the beautiful surroundings. The wood stoves provided plenty of heat. You do need to be ok with being isolated and unplugged though. We could not get any cell service (AT&T) and there is no internet or a landline. Do your research of where you go about maps, hiking trails, etc. We could see trails heading up behind the house, but didn’t have any way to research where they went unless we went into town. The surroundings were beautiful. There are 2 creeks on the property and beautiful trees and ferns everywhere. We had elk in the yard every day. There were 14 of them at one point laying in the yard. I would highly recommend this cabin.

Yes, definitely a place to get away from it all yet near all of the great parks, lagoons, and natural settings. I have US Cellular and I get good service at the property & Verizon is pretty good too I believe. Elk everyday - how fun!
