There’s no denying the serene beauty of California’s North Coast beaches. These picturesque North Coast beaches can be utilized in many ways: surfing, whale watching, sunbathing, swimming, beachcombing, kite flying, and the list goes on. Whether you’re hoping to ride a barrel, sunbathe on a gorgeous summer afternoon, or fly a colorful kite during your vacation to the Redwood Forest, you’ll have no trouble discovering a nearby scenic beach when you choose Redwood Coast Vacation Rentals. After careful consideration, we’ve hand-selected five or our favorite North Coast beaches. Enjoy!
Trinidad State Beach / College Cove
Trinidad State Beach is easily one of the prettiest North Coast beaches thanks to its lush haystacks, rocky coves, and optimal surf. On the north end of the beach is College Cove, an undeniably beautiful beach of beach that’s often utilized for sunbathing, dog walking, and photography. The southernmost stretch of Trinidad State Beach is ideal for surfing as the waves intensify in this section. You can also hike along the tall bluffs to snap panoramic photos of the rocky beaches with the Pacific Ocean as a backdrop.
Moonstone Beach County Park is one of the most popular surfing and rock climbing locales along the Redwood Coast, but you may also come across dog walkers, horseback riders, and sea kayakers. The beach rests on the mouth of the Little River just south of Trinidad, CA. Moonstone Beach is home to gorgeous sunsets and several unique rock formations, including Camel Rock to the north. The beach is certainly worth exploring to the north as you’ll discover mysterious coves, babbling run-off waterfalls, and colorful cliffsides.
Houda Point Beach
Despite being less than a mile north of Moonstone Beach County Park, Houda Point Beach remains one of the best-kept secrets along the Redwood Coast. Houda Point Beach is home to the aforementioned Camel Rock, making it one of the prettiest North Coast beaches. The surfing conditions are above average, the photography opportunities are among the best in Humboldt County, and the picnicking is simply perfection. Dogs are allowed off their leashes at Houda Point, so feel free to bring along your favorite four-legged friends!
Gold Bluffs Beach
There are several reasons that Gold Bluffs Beach made this list. First and foremost, the beach is steps away from the Redwood National Park, specifically Fern Canyon. Secondly, wild elk roam the beach and the surrounding forest. Thirdly, the golden bluffs are a surprising, visually-appealing treat. And lastly, the beach itself is a vast, pristine space that’s perfect for an afternoon picnic, mid-day kite flying, and beachcombing.
Centerville Beach County Park
It’s unquestionably worth mentioning Centerville Beach County Park, located west of Ferndale, CA, mainly because it’s one of the few North Coast beaches that offers beach driving. As a reminder, only four-wheel drive automobiles and ATVs are allowed to drive along the beach. Depending on the season, you can drive nearly five miles north to the Eel River. Campfires are also allowed, so we highly recommend planning a sunset beach fire during your getaway to Redwood National Park. The farmland, sloughs, and marshy wetlands behind the beach are perfect for beachcombing and birdwatching!
Lodging near Redwood National Park
There are several dozen more beautiful North Coast beaches near Redwood National Park, but these five provide something truly unique. All of these splendid North Coast beaches are within minutes from many of our charming, contemporary, and affordable Northern California vacation rentals.
Haven Cabin, one of our prized Trinidad vacation rentals, is only a 0.8-mile walk from Moonstone Beach County Park. This two-bedroom cabin is equally adorable and convenient. The beautifully landscaped back yard has a uniquely-shaped fire pit, while the cozy living area features a contemporary wood stove. The bathroom has a tiled mosaic shower, while the main bedroom has an ultra-comfortable king-size bed. Spend an afternoon on Moonstone Beach, indulge in shrimp-stuffed steelhead at Moonstone Grill, and return to Haven Cabin for a late-night fire!
The White House
No, not that White House. The historic White House in Ferndale, CA, was built in 1873, and yet, it retains much of its 19th-century charm. The White House is an easy five-mile drive from Centerville Beach County Park. Despite only being 970 square feet, the White House is plenty spacious, and it features some of the oldest decor you’ll ever come across in a vacation rental. The White House is undoubtedly historic, but it’s also charming and moderately contemporary.
Berry Glen Redwood Park Loft
The Berry Glen Redwood Park Loft is the closest vacation rental to Fern Canyon and the aforementioned Gold Bluffs Beach. Located in the heart of Redwood National Park, Berry Glen is an exceptionally unique loft that’s perfect for couples! The loft sleeps just two, has one cute bathroom, and an upstairs sleeping loft. This two-story duplex was once a red barn. It’s retained its scarlet color, but it’s been entirely transformed into one of the best cute cottages in Humboldt County.
