Orick (Redwood National Park)
Orick is a small town located approximately 50 miles north of Eureka on Highway 101 near the mouth of Redwood Creek. Known as a gateway to Redwood National and State Parks, Orick is truly a nature lover’s paradise. There are hiking trails galore and even
horseback tours through Redwood National Park. Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park also offers great hiking trails and access to the beautiful Fern Canyon, the location where Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park II was filmed. Gold Bluffs Beach, a beautiful 10-mile
stretch of golden sand located near Prairie Creek is great place to explore the dunes and watch herds of wild Roosevelt elk grazing. Plenty of boating and fishing activities can be done on any of the 3 nearby lagoons located within Humboldt Lagoons State Park,
Big Lagoon, Stone Lagoon, and Freshwater Lagoon. Kayak Zak's at Stone Lagoon offers guided kayaking and SUP trips, rentals & instruction year round. Guided river rafting trips down Redwood Creek are also available through Redwood River Trips.
The town itself offers a variety of roadside shops that feature unique redwood burl carvings, art and furnishings. Every summer the city hosts the Orick Rodeo at the Orick Rodeo Grounds and taking place at Patrick’s Point State Park just south, the Yurok
tribe puts on its annual Sumeg Village Day, which is a celebration of the local Native American culture. There is so much to see and do in Orick. For more information on park trails and attractions the Kuchel Visitor Center is conveniently located just south
